Our most basic religious belief is that God exists. By the capitalized word "God," we mean the God described in the Bible: a good and powerful spirit being who created all things, who cares about us, who cares about what we do, who is involved in our lives, and who offers us an eternity with his goodness. Humans cannot understand God in totality, but we can have a solid beginning point for understanding who God is and what God is doing in our lives. The deity of the Holy Spirit Christianity has traditionally taught that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Godhead. However, some people teach that the Holy Spirit is an impersonal force used by God. Is the Holy Spirit God, or simply a power of God? Let's examine the biblical teachings.

How many gods does God say there are? The Bible has many plain, simple, straightforward, unambiguous verses, and these are the verses we should study first when we want to understand what the Bible teaches. Understanding the plain, straightforward verses then becomes our basis for understanding the more difficult verses.

Does the trinity teach three gods? Some people think, If God the Father is a "Person" then he would count as "one" God. The same could be said about the Son and Holy Spirit. Thus, there would be three separate Gods. This is a common misconception about Trinitarian thinking.

1 + 1 + 1. The trinity just doesn't add up  The Father is God, and the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, but there is only one God. "Wait a minute," some people say.
