The WCG Story

Josheph Tkatch As the president of the Worldwide Church of God, I am writing to tell you a story of God’s grace and the transformation that took place in our church. It is a transformation that can be characterized as moving from darkness to the light of God’s truth. We branded other

Christians as false or worse. But by God’s grace, we have changed. We seek God’s will and wisdom for everything we teach and examine all that we do and say in the light of Scripture. We have grown and changed a lot in the last 15 years. Our story is a story of the power of prayer. It is a story of Christians reaching out to us as brothers and sisters in Christ. It is also a story of mistrust and suspicion. And, sadly, it is also a story of rejection and separation. See Transformed by Truth, a book by Joseph Tkach

In the 1930s, H. W. Armstrong began a ministry that eventually became the Worldwide Church of God. He had many unusual doctrines. He taught them so enthusiastically that eventually more than 100,000 people attended weekly services. However, after he died in 1986, church leaders began to realize that many of his doctrines were not biblical. Here is the story of how the church developed and changed. Salvation comes not by works, but only by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. See our 10-point summary of faith and the details for 35 doctrines in our Statement of Beliefs of the WCG
