Your Destiny

There is a purpose for your being alive and a destiny toward which you are moving. Whether you are aware of it or not is not important…at least not at this moment.

You as a unique person were created to live in an eternal, joyful relationship with the Father, His Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit and by extension with every other human being. This may seem overwhelming to you. Let us explain.

You are not an accident. You were planned for and you were brought into being at the appropriate time by God. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit knew you before you were born. Note this scripture “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…” (Jeremiah 1:5 NIV) Here we are given an insight into a stunning truth. The only logical way that God could “know” Jeremiah before he was born was to have designed him before he was born. God “hand-formed” Jeremiah as he was developing in the womb according to a pre-existing individual plan for Jeremiah. No great building has ever been built without its first having existed in the mind of its creator and architect. The same is true for you. You are the son or daughter that the Father has wanted since He thought of you and designed you in His mind and held you in His heart until the time was right for you to enter into life. He then guided the right sperm cell, watched over the conception and began to patiently, lovingly form you in your mother’s womb into the child of His affection and hope.

The author of Psalm 139 gives us another insight. “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise You because I am fearfully (awesomely) and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place (womb). When I was woven together in the depths of the earth… (Psalm 139:13-15 NIV).

These scriptures from Psalms and Jeremiah reveal to us truths that are simply stunning. You were on the Father’s mind before you were conceived. You are the daughter or son that the Father has always wanted.

Let us look at the evidence of your destiny.

If this all seems to be overwhelming do not be discouraged. Consider this. God made some very important decisions concerning man, which pertain to you. God decided to create man in His own image so that he could enjoy a relationship with Him. God intended that Man would joyfully participate in this relationship. For man to joyfully participate in this relationship God had to give man the power of free will. A forced relationship is no relationship. This power of choice naturally entailed the possibility of man making decisions that would violate the relationship with Himself for which God was creating him. The reason for taking such an enormous risk is that God had to give us the freedom to choose this relationship based upon love, respect and trust.

There is an adversary who is very much against this plan. After Adam and Eve were created, and were enjoying their relationship with God, the adversary was permitted into the garden. There he spoke to our parents and discredited God suggesting that God had lied to them and could not be trusted. (Genesis 3:1-7) Adam and Eve were naïve and became seduced to believe the lie. This choosing to disbelieve God resulted in alienation between them and God.

When God came walking into the garden for His daily fellowship with Adam and Eve they heard Him coming and hid from Him. God had not changed and was certainly not someone to be feared. But their foolish heart had become darkened. (Romans 1:21) Fear entered their hearts. Their guilt had created a perception of God as one to be feared.

God called them to account for their behavior. Adam blamed Eve. Eve blamed the adversary, Satan. Neither took any responsibility for their actions. Now God understood perfectly why this had happened. He then turned to Satan and cursed him and told him that a “seed” from the woman would come and crush his head. But before this he (the adversary) would bruise his heel. This is the earliest reference to Christ. He would ultimately crush the head of Satan (all of his works), but He would first be “bruised” by him. This is a reference to the crucifixion.

God had foreseen this in His planning before creation and had determined that Jesus Christ would have to come and die and redeem man from sin. He would become the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. (Revelation 13:8)

We see an image of this in Genesis 3:21. God makes garments of skin and clothes Adam and his wife. “Clothing” is a metaphor for forgiveness. This is the first reference to the mystery of redemption that we see in Genesis. Romans 16:25 informs us that this mystery has been hidden since the beginning of time. (NLT)

Let’s go back to your destiny.

The story of what happened in the garden has great meaning for you. Like Adam and Eve you were formed by God for fellowship. Like Adam and Eve you too have believed a lie. Like Adam and Eve you too have been forgiven. Jesus Christ, the Seed of the woman, has come. He has been severely bruised, crucified to take away the sin of the world. (John 1:29) He has crushed the head of the adversary. God has reconciled you to Himself not counting your sins against you. (2 Corinthians 5:19)

Any sense of separation from God that you may feel is a result of the alienation that may exist in your mind. If you fear God you may be like Adam and Eve hiding from Him. The apostle Paul (New Testament writer) wrote to members of the ancient church at Colosse in what is now Turkey about alienation. In Colossians 1:21 he writes, “Once you (Colossians) were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.” He then writes in verse 22, “But now He has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation…”

If you have read this far, we praise God! You can embrace your destiny, enter into the loving forgiveness of God and begin to live in the fullness of life that Jesus Christ has made possible for you. Find a quiet place, if only in your mind, and talk to God. He is listening and waiting for you. Tell Him how much you want to know Him. Ask Him to completely remove that veil from your heart. (2 Corinthians 3:16)

Remember that God exists as three divine Persons dwelling together in inseparable harmony. The Father, His Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit work together in marvelous harmony to rescue you from your alienation. The Father draws you to Himself and points you toward His Son, Jesus Christ. (John 6:44) The Word of God (the Holy Bible) reveals Jesus Christ to you. The Holy Spirit embraces you with His love and pours the love of God into your heart enabling you to respond to the love and grace of God. (Romans 5:5)

Your salvation has been purchased for you. Your destiny awaits you. Surrender to the love of God and enter into the relationship with God that you were created for.
